Hey guys, I am Sarah. Every week I comb through hundreds of DIY videos preparing projects for our weekly Maker show, Maker Break. Along the way, I find some good projects… and some GREAT ones, And right now, I’m going to share them with you! This is Sarah’s Top 5 DIY Farmhouse Tables.
#5 – DIY Erica
Let’s Get to It with #5! DIY Erica built her table using 4×4’s 2×10’s and some common power tools you probably have in the garage. First she laid out her 2×10 boards for the top and screwed pocket holes into them so that there won’t be any bulky hardware visible when it’s finished. Her kids helped to keep the boards down while she screwed them together. Next she used the miter saw to get her 4×4 lumber for the legs ready. And all that was left was final assembly and finish! Erica this is beautiful!
#4 – Woodshop Mike
Woodshop Mike is #4! Mike shared this great video showing you his process of building a giant farmhouse table big enough for the whole family! He starts off by milling down and running them through the jointer and thickness planer. Once the table top was glued up he cut it down to final size. Next he made the vertical post for support with a mortise joint for extra stability. He has a lot of great advice for a build like this and if you are ready to dive into a farmhouse table build you should watch this video. Finally he made the legs and the feet then put the entire build together.
#3 – Ty Moser
Next up is #3! Ty Moser got started with his farmhouse table build at the table saw, cutting down the walnut boards and hand planing the sides. Using biscuits and glue he got all of his table top pieces, clamped them together and used a little bit of epoxy to fill in any knots or cracks. Once he got both sides of the table assembled he scored, and routed the ends for the breadboard pieces to be attached. I really like the extra detail he added with the darker dowels. Finally it was time to build the legs, and the braces for the table top. He added finish to the top and the table base and after it dried he finished the final assembly. This is almost too pretty to use!
#2 – Into The Dirt Shop
# 2 is Into The Dirt Shop! Tim built this farmhouse table for one of his friends using mostly pine 2×12’s. I like this project! He built the entire thing with limited tools, but it looks like he built it from a fully equipped woodworking shop. He used biscuits to join the table top boards and the breadboard end pieces together. Since he didn’t have a planer this project required a lot of sanding, but having a thickness planer is not necessary. Once he got the base and legs assembled, he added the dark walnut danish oil and set it aside to dry. Then he built a matching bench to go with it! Tim this build turned out beautifully! Awesome job!
#1 – Johny Builds
Coming in at #1 is Johny Builds! This table is built completely out of reclaimed barn lumber he picked up from a local shop. Because he used reclaimed wood there were many obstacles in his way making this a very challenging project. But one by one he tackled each issue that arose and met them with a solution! He used dominos to help with the table top assembly to help keep the old boards in alignment. There were a lot of voids, cracks, and knots that needed to be filled on this table and he decided to use this pretty aqua blue color of epoxy for a vibrant pop of color that adds so much character to an already truly unique piece. He shares all of the mishaps and accomplishments along the way and the finished piece is stunning.
