Along the way, I find some good projects… and some GREAT ones, And right now, I’m going to share them with you! This is Sarah’s Top 5 DIY Dog Houses! #5 is Modern Builds
Mike needed a dog house for a four legged friend and decided to make one with easy plans that require minimal tools. He mostly used plywood for this build but added some fun design elements that truly make this a Modern Builds project, like the little windows, the wooden slats around the front door and the pretty angled roof. He said if you didn’t need your version of his build to be so big you could easily scale it down for a smaller dog, but honestly if I was making this I would need the large side for Maui. My golden retriever. Mike, I really liked this project, nice job!
#4 is DIY Creators
Glenn’s dog house is also for a pretty big dog but I am sure you could scale this one down as well if this is just too big for your little furry friend. He made the carcass of the dog house with plywood and ended up wrapping the entire house with these discounted tongue and groove boards he found at his local home improvement store. I really like the look this gave the dog house and it is really cool that he did this entire build conscience of keeping the cost down. Honestly one of my favorite details of this build is the plexiglass windows all around the top to make it easy to check in on your doggo. The metal roof and bright white paint really pull this entire project together and if you love it as much as I do, be sure to check out his part II where he landscapes the area around the dog house.
#3 is Homesteadonomics
Joe Started off this build with framing out the house and roof structure with 2×4’s and plywood. Instead of using plywood for the walls he actually used cedar decking boards. He did mention that if you live in a more wet climate you should take some extra steps to water seal it but since this was going to be placed under their outdoor living space it hopefully won’t get hit with too much exposure to water. Joe added metal flashing to all of the corners and used some left over roofing material from his house, to the dog house and that was about it. Added the little drawer and vent to the side were both really nice additions.
#2 is April Wilkerson
April’s project got me excited because she wanted to make an insulated dog house for her three little dogs. Although she lives in texas and the doggos don’t face heavy winters like we do here in Ohio, they do get some cold cold nights and nasty wind. So she wanted to make sure they had a safe place to get out of the weather when they were not with her. She started her project by framing out the house, with ripped down 2×4’s and added insulation before adding plywood. She added the bead board siding, and the roof that doubles as an access panel for her to be able to check on the doggos. I really like this one, and I like the extra details she added to make it perfect for her pups.
#1 is Jay Bates
This project starts off pretty easy peasy, he gets the basic shape of the house done with plywood and a nailer and primed everything. After taking a quick snack break that is when the details start flooding this build. He carefully cut out trim for the entire house and even made sure that the porch had a railing. Gotta keep them safe from zoomies. Then he cuts down and stains every single individual wooden shingle. That is love for your furry little friend guys. That is love. He added some 4×4’s to the bottom I am assuming to protect the actual dog house from sitting on the ground, and obviously, to help him move it to the back yard. This is soooo cute! Also this video really really makes me want a nailer.
