We have seen several new cordless band saws over the last few years in the market and it seems they are getting more and more compact. This is the first time we have seen a 12 volt band saw however. Perhaps it was all Adam Savage, from Mythbusters, fault for naming the cordless band saw his favorite tool but whatever the reason the demand is definitely increasing.
This new Milwaukee M12 band saw 2429-21XC will be out soon but leaves us questioning how useful is a band saw that can’t even handle a 2” pipe? The closest competitor is the Bosch 18V Band Saw with a 2.5” opening and we questioned that when it came out. Milwaukee has certainly shown they are not afraid to make very targeted product for professional trades, especially in the M12 line. At only 6.75 lbs with battery this saw barely outweighs a typical cordless drill. For cutting of threaded rod overhead this would be the absolute ideal tool! It would probably do pretty well as a rebar cutter as well and be far less expensive than most other cordless rebar cutting options.
