As lithium ion batteries continue to improve and become more compact we have seen a shift of some traditional pneumatic tools to battery powered. The new Milwaukee M12 ratchets, 1/4" 2456-21 ($159, Ohio Power Tool) and 3/8” 2457-21 ($149, Ohio Power Tool) are perfect examples of this trend. Putting out up to 35lbs torque with relatively the same size as comparable air tools (when factoring in fittings and hoses). It certainly makes sense to have the added maneuverability of no hose or cord to drag around the shop.
These new ratchets use the popular Milwaukee M12 cordless system so batteries are very easy to find and compatible with dozens of other tools already. Another big advantage with going battery over a traditional pneumatic ratchet is the added LED light which illuminates your work area in a dark engine bay extremely well. The larger variable speed metal trigger is also very comfortable and offers good control while in use.
Available starting October 1st the new cordless ratchets will be a part of the “Automotive” line of Milwaukee cordless tools which we are very excited to see what else might be in this new lineup (perhaps a small cut-off tool or surface prep kit could be in the future?).
