Jet Oscillating Spindle Sander JOSS-S is Built for Dust Collection

Jet Sander JOSS-S

The team at Jet have been on a mission for the last several years to really take a closer look at common workshop equipment and overhaul their lineup making improvements at all levels. More than just a few spec tweaks to keep up with the competition but a real rethinking of how the spindles are used, changed and stored make the Jet JOSS-S Spindle Sander ($1499) a good example of how Jet is setting themselves apart.

Sander Dust Collection

The large tilting table is incredibly helpful for handling a wide variety of work pieces but the dust collection is one of the best we’ve seen. The sander includes several inserts so you can select the best work-piece support no matter what spindle size or table angle. The inserts are large and porous, with terrific dust collection ability.

Spindle Sander

LaVergne, TN – The new JET® JOSS-S Floor Model Oscillating Spindle Sander is designed to take the hassle out of sanding. Featuring increased table tilting, spindle lock for single-wrench changes, optimized dust collection, and integrated storage this sander packs it all into one solid machine.

The JOSS-S is designed with dust collection in mind. Flexible accordion-style baffles beneath the table create a chamber for collecting dust at its source. A 4”-diameter dust port easily connects to a standard dust collection system.

The large 24 ½” by 24 ½” cast iron table is at a comfortable working height of 39-3/16” from the floor. The table tilts 45o forward, 15o back and locks at any point in between to accommodate a full range of sanding operations.  The 90° quick index makes returning the table to level an easy adjustment. A spindle lock makes installing or changing spindles quick and easy with the use of a single wrench.   With the table tilted back 15o, access to the spindle is greatly increased, making changes smoother.

The JOSS-S spindle sander comes with a set of 10 spindles and abrasive sleeves, including ¼”, ⅜”, ½”, ⅝”, ¾”, 1”, 1-½”, 2”, 3”, and 4” sizes. The integrated storage area in the cabinet provides designated slots for all spindles, drums, and table inserts. There is also a magnetic strip to hold the included wrench for spindle changes.  The door to the storage area is sealed to keep out dust and debris.

The JOSS-S is powered by a heavy-duty 1 HP, 1 Ph, 115/230V TEFC motor, mounted independently inside the base for easy access and service. The motor directly engages a worm and gear drive that turns the spindle at 1720 RPM and generates 75 oscillations per minute. The sander’s 1-½” oscillating action reduces heat build-up, protecting the work piece and extending abrasive sleeve life. The on/off paddle switch is conveniently located on the front of the cabinet and features a safety key. The floor model spindle sander weighs 216 lbs.

The JET JOSS-S Floor Model Oscillating Spindle Sander (723950, $1,499.99) will be available on May 15, 2015. The JET spindle sander has a 5-year warranty.
