Bosch Tools New 18V Brushless Drills & Hammer Drills

EC Brushless Bosch

These new cordless EC Brushless drills from Bosch are their 2nd generation brushless models for the “Compact Tough” mid-torque application range. We are still waiting to see a Bosch “Brute Tough” Brushless models to go up against the Milwaukee FUEL, Dewalt and Makita drills with the 1000+ in lbs torque (like we tested in the 2015 Hammer Drill Showdown) which Bosch will hopefully launch later 2016. These new Bosch Compact Tough models produce a solid 531 in lbs, enough for 90% of common applications (only a year ago 700 in lbs was considered very heavy duty). The selling point with these units is defiantly in size, weight, value and safety without sacrificing other pro features.

We have definitely talked to many professionals who don’t want the big heavy drills but also don’t want the cheap plastic chucks and home owner grade tools. These new Bosch drills are really built for the professionals, lots of upgrades include new metal chucks, Durashield housing, electronic protection and high performance EC brushless motors. Since most professionals do not use their cordless drills for mixing concrete or tasks that require a ton of torque the Bosch Compact Tough give a good amount of power but in a lighter easier to handle package. If you do need a lot of torque these drills are not designed for you.

KickBack Control is a really nice safety feature we saw Bosch launch a few years back that should be required on every heavy duty drills with the 1000+ in lbs. Not to say it shouldn’t be on these drills because even 531 in lbs can still badly injure a wrist. The KickBack Control basically senses if the drill catches and twists more than a quarter turn the tool cuts off and a possible catastrophic accident is avoided. After almost 2 years in the field with Bosch’s other Brute drills we have not heard any negative feedback on the KickBack Control feature having issues of any kind.

Expect to see these on the shelf later this month with a full Coptool review coming. On first glance these seems like a very good value as Bosch has always build solid tools and backed them with a warranty they actually stand behind. Almost never do you heard “user error” to deny a warranty unless it’s clearly been underwater or dropped off a roof.
