Bosch Power Tools at World of Concrete 2011

Every year we get pretty excited about the World of Concrete because of all the new product releases that happen just prior or during the actual show. It also has some really cool and interesting attractions to see, if you are into concrete at least. The most exciting new Bosch concrete product had to have been the new Brute BH2760VCD ($1599, Ohio Power Tool) which we had compared to the Makita and DeWalt previously.  Here are a few others to look for that are either out now or headed to stores in the near future. Also check out this photo album for more pictures from the show.

Cordless Tools

Bosch has been a little behind a few of the other brands in terms of depth of their 18v lithium line but it looks like they are making some moves to change that in 2011. The cordless grind CAG180-01 ($399, Ohio Power Tool) is in stores now and features several advanced features including electronic battery & motor protection, most power in its class and restart protection just to name a few. The cordless SDS-Plus Rotary Hammer RHH180-01 ($491, Ohio Power Tool) is another 18v tool that will be on shelves shortly. The size and speed make it ideal for drilling ¾” and under holes for rebar and other concrete anchors especially when a power supply is not available. Another new cordless product which would be helpful from smaller concrete anchors like the Tappers would be the new 18v compact hammer drill HDB180-01 ($199, Ohio Power Tool). Ideal for ¼” & 3/16” this super lightweight tool packs a lot of power/weight at 360 in lbs. There are several additional Bosch 18v tools we should see in 2011 including a compact bandsaw, nailgun and jigsaw, among others.

Dust Collection

This is a topic that has been getting a lot of attention but probably only going to get more as these regulations and mandates escalate. Silicate dust can be nasty business to work around so we are happy to see more technology added which makes collecting the dust easier without costing the guys who use them a ton. Bosch has added self-contained dust collectors on the smaller SDS and ½” chuck hammer drills which we have seen before but they also introduced some new add-on dust collectors for SDS-Max and larger drills/breakers. These would obviously need to hook to a vacuum of some kind but on the jobsite would mean a serious decrease in dust in the air. The very popular Bosch vacuum 3931A ($599, Ohio Power Tool) also got an upgrade in 2010 to use with plastic bag now, perfect for containing silica dust but no word yet on a HEPA certified vac from Bosch.

Decorative Concrete

This is absolutely amazing to me, a true art form what many of these guys can do with concrete. Between pouring, cutting, grinding, shaping, coloring, polishing, etc is there any effect you can’t get with concrete? At the WOC show each year there are many artists and a whole section dedicated to just decorative concrete. This year Bosch brought a little of that excitement to their booth and had concrete artists Gerald Taylor and Steve Ochs create the above sculpture live during the several day show so everyone could watch how it was done. And if you look close that’s the new cordless bosch grinder that did it all, very impressive.
