While most pro tool brands are pushing for bigger and more powerful tools, Bosch is looking to deliver smaller more compact tools but maintain the power that pros need. We recently looked at the 18V Compact Tough Drills overhaul with similar shrinking profile. These new 12V EC Brushless impacts are a great example with 975 in lbs on the ¼” driver, 1020 in lbs on the 3/8” but fit into the palm of your hand at 2.2lbs, 5.5”. Build for professionals with new EC brushless motors, all-meatal gearbox, Durashild housing and improved LED light ring. These are a little pricier than common 12V but again these are aimed at professionals, PS42 ($119, bare) & PS82 ($149, bare).

We think this is a smart game plan, it is a very common user demand in other countries such as Europe and Asia. This probably makes it a no brainer for Bosch where they are already very strong in those markets. While the US market is certainly going to want bigger and stronger tools there is also a good portion of professionals who want the higher quality features in the smaller more compact packages. Currently most of the compact tools are also cheaper, underpowered without the premium features so pros don’t buy them. Certainly it’s going to be a personal choice but if you are looking so something that’ll fit in the tool belt these should be a consideration.
